Solid Surface

Solid surface is composed of minerals, acrylic resins and colors that combine for an exact look in a broad range of colors and designs. While it offers the look of natural stone, the manufacturing process ensures consistency for very good color matching at installation and in the future when new needs arise.

Because of its resistance to bacteria, solid surface is often used in commercial businesses where food preparation takes place or within medical institutions.

STAIN-RESISTANCE

Solid surface is non-porous and therefore is highly resistant to stains from coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup, and many other common household products. Unlike granite, a solid surface does not need to be sealed.

BACTERIA RESISTANCE

The non-porous nature of solid surface creates an impermeable surface for bacteria. This allows it to be naturally resistant to mold, mildew, and bacteria. Most solid surface is approved by the FDA and NSF International for food contact and preparation.

THERMOFORM CAPABLE

Solid surface can be molded or shaped by thermoforming it to fit any design you can imagine. Solid surface is often used for integrated sinks so there are no seams, grout lines, lips, or recesses to collect bacteria, mold or dirt. Thermoform shaping is often used to make beautiful curvatures or custom edge adornment.

FINISH SELECTION

Solid surface gives you a choice of a matte, satin, or gloss finish. The matte finish is easy to maintain and has no sheen. The satin finish is also easy to maintain and has a low to medium luster. The gloss finish is achieved by polishing the surface after sanding. The result is a high sheen that reveals vibrancy and depth of color. If a dark color is being used in a high traffic area, a gloss finish is not recommended.

EASILY REPAIRABLE

Scratches can be easily sanded or buffed out. Over time with use and general cleaning the surface finish will appear to change. We recommend periodically cleaning the entire surface using the manufacturer's guidelines for removing residue to restore or maintain the original finish. Minor heat damage also can usually be buffed away by the homeowner. More severe heat damage can be inconspicuously repaired by Surface Designs. Trivets are recommended by solid surface manufacturers to protect countertops against exposure to extreme heat.

COLOR SELECTION

Solid surface comes in a wide spectrum of colors and patterns. Unlike natural stone, the actual surface color will be consistent with the sample you receive.

EDGE SELECTION

Accent the look of your countertop with a well-chosen edge treatment. Solid surface can be shaped or molded into a variety of custom designs, making edging options nearly limitless. Seams are smooth and virtually invisible.
